For this session we were advised to try using Lines and circles in our sketches to make sure proportions were in scale, for the first few images I did not use this technique but as soon as i did the accuracy of my sketches was very noticeable. The sketch of iron man in particular showed perspective, something when sketching normally I would of found difficult to do.

For this session of Life Drawing I used coloured paper, the goal of the session was to understand how to show texture on our work.  For this the life model had various sheets underneath him and we focused on how the folds of the sheets or the shadow. For the longest pose the model wore a robe and I reverted to using charcoal. I also added pencil as it allowed me to highlight areas just as I did in previous work. I was very happy with how it turned out.

For one of the weeks we were told to use a material other than pencil. I decided to use charcoal which I found myself very comfortable using. Shading with the material was easy and it was precise when adding pressure to the paper.
What I also did was change parts of the body to get an idea of proportion. I found this interesting as it was clear things looked completely wrong - such as a large shoulder but that was the purpose of the session. I also added colour to one of the charcoal images at the end. I felt that the colour allowed me to add highlights where light would hit the life model that would of been difficult to present just through one media.

As the lessons continued we were introduced to techniques to aid our sketching. Two of these techniques were a series of 8 or less lines across the page to help maintain the correct proportions. The other was vanishing points where a point in the middle of the page would be selected and lines drawn towards the viewer. This showed me how distance affected proportion in a 2D flat image.
I also created a conceptual environment of a train station where I placed the life model in to after drawing them. What I would of liked to change was the size of paper I drew the perspective shot on, as the small paper did not allow me to allocate enough detail. However the techniques presented were very effective.

First week of Life Drawing. This mostly involved short 2 minute poses and a final 30 minute pose. I worked on A4 which I felt was slightly too small - especially for the more detailed piece. I felt I could manage to sketch the human form but struggled when it came to feet and hands. What surprised me was how many skin tones could be found and how light affected colour.

I tried a quick sketch at placing my character within his prop. As my characters story cycled around him being imprisoned within the lantern I felt I need to make it look much more fortified to encase the character. The lantern image was an earlier idea of how I wanted my character to look.
I coloured my character in Photoshop, I wanted to maintain a cartoon theme as my ideas were inspired by Dreamworks and Pixar characters.

These is my initial design for the character, I have my character story also included. I wanted to give my character a more 'cartoony' look as my research was based around Disney + Pixar characters aswell as 'Casper the friendly ghost'. I sketched out the environment briefly of where a character would collect their 'Convicted' and I am currently working on presenting a coloured version.
